NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Harvard University men's soccer alumnus Matt Freese '22 will represent the Red, White and Blue on the world stage this Summer after being called up to the United States Men's National Team (USAMNT) FIFA World Cup squad. The goalkeeper was selected by the USAMNT Head Coach, Mauricio Pochettino, along with the 25 other players who will compete in the upcoming tournament.
Freese has shined on the international stage for the United States, earning eight wins and three clean sheets in 14 appearances for USAMNT. The Pennsylvania native broke out for the United States in the 2025 Gold Cup, where he started six games and made 16 saves to help the United States take second in the tournament.
Currently competing in the MLS with New York City FC, Freese has started 17 games and has anchored the defense by allowing 23 goals while logging three clean sheets. A 2018 Second Team All-Ivy selection at Harvard, Freese has played in Major League Soccer for the Philadelphia Union (2019-22) and New York City FC (2023-present). He earned Team MVP honors for NYC FC following the 2024 season.
