GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The Harvard men's heavyweight rowing team wrapped up the IRA National Championship Regatta with a pair of medals at Lake Natoma. HUBC's second varsity earned the bronze and third varsity the silver.

To start the day, it was the third varsity on the water first in the A Final. HUBC, stroked by Marco Vicino, sat third behind Princeton and Cal through the first 500m. A second-half surge pushed Harvard ahead of both opponents and made for a strong push to the finish line before a bow's length finish behind Washington in a time of 5:45.018.

The second varsity put together a medal-winning performance later in the morning by earning bronze. Harvard, stroked by Tyler Horler, sat second for much of the race, even pushing the gold medal-winning boat from Princeton for much of the race. However, Washington overcame the HUBC boat, erasing a two-second margin, in the final 500m as Harvard crossed the line in 5:44.273.

The final race of the regatta was the varsity eight grand final. Harvard, which was stroked by Ben Scott, landed just off the podium in fourth place. Harvard crossed in 5:41.588 after a strong start that saw HUBC in second through the first 500m and still hanging on to second at the midway point of the race before falling to fourth by the 1500 mark.
