CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Basketball incoming first-year Preston Merrick '30 averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game to help the Antigua and Barbuda senior men's national team win Group A at the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers from July 8-12 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana.
 
Playing four games in five days, the Bulldogs went 3-1 at the event, topping Bermuda (82-50), Dominica (90-51), and Turks and Caicos (86-57), while dropping a narrow 75-73 overtime decision to Guyana. As a group winner, Antigua and Barbuda has now advanced to the next round of FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Pre-Qualifying.
 
Merrick ranked fourth at the event in points per game (17.5) and first in steals per game (3.0), while adding 4.5 rebounds per game. He shot 45.6 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from 3-point distance across the four games.
 
Merrick scored in double figures in each of three contests, including back-to-back 26-point efforts in his final two games. In the finale against Turks and Caicos, Merrick posted 26 points, seven rebounds, and six steals after notching 26 points, four boards, and three steals against Dominica. His first double-figure scoring game came against Guyana when he netted 16 points on 6-of-8 field goals and 3-of-5 3-pointers.
 
A First Team All-NEPSAC Class A and First Team All-Founders League selection at The Hotchkiss School in 2025-26, Merrick served the Bearcats as two-time captain and finished his career with over 1,000 career points. A native of Laurelton, New York, Merrick helped lead The Hotchkiss School to a NEPSAC Class A championship and Founders League title.
