Samantha Carr

Former New Hampshire and Michigan State assistant Samantha Carris in her first season on the Harvard field hockey staff as theCrimson's coaching assistant.

Carr, who was also a standout player for UNH, helped coach theWildcats during the 2006 and '07 seasons and was most recently acoach with the New England Hockeymates instructional program.Before and during her stint at UNH, she served as the site directorand head coach for the New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine region ofthe USA Field Hockey Futures Program. Carr had previously servedtwo seasons as a graduate assistant at Michigan State.

As a member of the Hockeymates staff, Carr coached elite NewEngland high school athletes on outdoor and indoor skill work andgame tactics. At UNH, she was a key contributor in recruiting andwith group skill sessions, while assisting with planning ofpractices and games.

In her role with USA Field Hockey, Carr directed the Olympicdevelopment program for northern New England and served on theNational Tournament Selection Committee. She also served as theassistant director of the UNH field hockey camp during that time,managing the camp's budget, coaching staff and housing.

A native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Carr earned a bachelor'sdegree in sociology from New Hampshire in 2004. She completed amaster's degree in sports administration at Michigan State twoyears later. As a graduate assistant at MSU, she organized andoversaw practices and handled various compliance and administrativeresponsibilities.

Carr played four years of field hockey for UNH, playing at back,midfield and forward and totaling four goals and four assists. Shehelped the Wildcats reach the America East Championship final andNCAA tournament in 2000 and the America East semifinals in 2002 and'03.

As a senior in 2003, she earned second-team all-region andfirst-team all-conference honors and was a member of the AmericaEast Academic Honor Roll. Carr started all 21 games as a senior,recording one goal and three points and was named to theAll-Tournament Team at the America East Conference Championships.
