Ryan Chen is in his second season as a graduate manager for Harvard men’s basketball in 2023-24. In this capacity, Chen runs the program’s statistical reporting structures to glean insights into team and individual performance, as well as helping with day-to-day operations.
Harvard posted a 14-13 overall record in 2023-24, standing as the 14th time in the last 15 competitive seasons that the Crimson notched a record of .500 or better. Chen helped Malik Mack ’27 to Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors. Prior to the academic year, the Crimson took part in a comprehensive experience during a foreign tour of Canada in August 2023.
In 2022-23, Chen helped the Crimson post a 14-14 overall record, marking the 13th time in the last 14 competitive seasons that Harvard has tallied a record of .500 or better. Chen worked with Chris Ledlum ’23, who earned First Team All-Ivy honors unanimously, while also capturing NABC All-District and USBWA All-District accolades.
Chen is currently enrolled in the Juris Doctor program at Harvard Law School with an expected graduation date of May 2024. Before coming to Cambridge, Chen worked in basketball analytics for the Orlando Magic for four seasons (2017-21), creating predictive statistical models and quantitative tools to support front office roster management and strategic positioning.
Chen graduated from Stanford University in 2017 with a master’s degree in Management Science & Engineering. He also graduated from the University of Michigan in 2014 with bachelor’s degrees in Industrial & Operations Engineering and Euphonium Performance.
