Over his career Tim has advanced international education and cultural exchange through a variety of fundraising and program management positions at six major academic institutions including the American University of Beirut, Johns Hopkins University’s bi-national Hopkins-Nanjing Center and Harvard University.

In 2020, after 12 years serving as Managing Director, Asia-Pacific at Harvard’s Office of Alumni Affairs & Development, Tim retired to work on a variety of projects promoting the nonprofit sector.  He is currently a member of the Harvard College Board of First Year Advisors and the Kirkland House Senior Common Room.  In 2015 Tim joined Bill Alford as a Faculty Fellow with the Crimson hockey team to enhance the team’s engagement across the University and beyond.  Tim has been a steadfast fan of Harvard Hockey since he was introduced to the team in the early 1960s by his brother who, as a student, managed concessions at the old Watson Rink.  Tim’s first hockey heroes included the charismatic JFK line (Jorgenson, Fryer, Kinasewich), captain Tim Taylor, and all-American defenseman Dave Johnston.  Tim completed an MA in International Relations from The American University and a doctorate in Higher Education from Harvard University.

In 2020 Tim and Bill Alford established the “Alford-Brown Prize” given annually to honor team members for their contributions both to the team and the campus community.  The inaugural prize was awarded to Justin Szeto (AB’20).  Subsequent recipients include Casey Dornbach (AB’22) and Derek Schaedig (AB’22), Wyllum Deveaux (AB’23) and Jace Foskey (AB’23), and last year Max Miller (AB’24).
