Matt Jones ''12

Matt Jones is in his first season as an assistant to both the men's and women's programs.

Jones comes back to Cambridge after spending three seasons as the head coach for men’s volleyball at Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, California. During that stint, he was also the 18-and-under boys head coach for the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club and the Director of MadSkills, a clinic for girls in grades four through eight.

Jones began his coaching career as the head coach for the Coast Volleyball Club boy’s 16-year-old second team in Sorrento Valley, California and an assistant coach for the boys’ 18-year-old top team, which took the bronze medal at the 2013 Junior Olympics. He also was the Laguna Blanca High School boy’s beach volleyball head coach.

The former outside hitter's name floods Harvard’s career records book ranking first in kills (1,218) and aces (97), third in kills per set (3.76), sixth in digs (452) and block assists (178), seventh in total blocks (206), and ninth in solo blocks (28). The four-year letterwinner was also named to the 2012 All-EIVA first team, the EIVA All-Tournament Team, and the EIVA All-Academic team.

The La Jolla, California native graduated from Harvard in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics focusing in statistics. In October 2012, Jones was selected for an opportunity to play internationally on the Volley Bartreng in Bertange, Luxemburg where he helped the team make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years while also coaching and tutoring members of the club’s youth team in mathematics.
