Bruce Irving returns for his 12th season with the Crimsonprogram in 2013-14. Irving is a volunteer assistant, focusing histime with the team's goaltenders.
With Irving's coaching in 2007-08, Kyle Richter earned the KenDryden Award as ECAC Hockey's top goalie. He was selected to theAll-ECAC and All-Ivy League first teams and was a New EnglandAll-Star after posting ECAC Hockey's top goals-against average(1.82) and save percentage (.935) in league play. Richter was theECAC Goaltender of the Week three times that year, and Irving'spupils earned the honor twice last season.
Irving helped mentor Dov Grumet-Morris '05 to a standout career,culminating in an brilliant 2004-05 campaign. Grumet-Morris was aHobey Baker Award finalist, an AHCA All-American and the WalterBrown Award recipient as the top U.S.-born player in New England.Grumet-Morris closed the season second in the nation with a 1.63goals-against average. He played three of his four seasons underIrving, finishing as Harvard's all-time leader in saves (3,081) andsecond on the career goals-against average list at 2.25.
The graduation of Grumet-Morris left the Crimson without anexperienced goalie heading into 2005-06, but under the guidance ofIrving, John Daigneau '06 had a outstanding season. He led Harvardto an ECAC Hockey League title, earning Most Outstanding Playerhonors in the conference tournament.
In 2006-07, Justin Tobe '07 ranked second in the ECACHL with a2.26 goals-against average under the guidance of Irving.
A native of Newbury, Mass., Irving was a goaltender at Cornellwhile pursuing his degree in electrical engineering, which hereceived in 1985. Irving also earned an M.B.A. from Northeastern in1991.
Irving has worked various camps as a goaltender coach andcoached at Triton Regional High School from 1985-2001, firstserving as an assistant before being promoted to head coach in1998. An alumnus of the school, he coached the Vikings to a42-32-10 record over four seasons.
Irving is the co-owner, president and CEO of ENPRO services, afamily-owned environmental services contracting company inNewburyport, Mass.
Irving and his wife, Janice, reside in Newburyport, Mass., withtheir sons, Jackson and Carson.
