Eric Butorac joined the Harvard men's tennis coaching staff as avolunteer assistant in August 2010, bringing a lifetime ofexperience in the game at both the amateur and professionallevels.

Butorac began playing tennis at age five with his father, Tim, whois manager of Rochester Tennis Connection, a club in Rochester,Minn. He played collegiately at Gustavus Adolphus College in St.Peter, Minn., a Division III school, from 2001-03, capturing NCAAsingles and doubles titles (w/Kevin Whipple) in '03. Butorac earnedAll-American honors in singles and doubles in three seasons atGustavus Adolphus College. He played one season of NCAA Division Itennis at Ball State in 2000 before transferring to GustavusAdolphus.

After finishing school, Butorac lived in Evreux, France, for oneyear and played in club-level tennis, gaining his first ATP Rankingon Oct. 6, 2003, after winning the French Futures doubles title inPlaisir, France. His marquee moment as a professional came early in2014, when he advanced to the finals of the Australian Open doublesbracket, his deepest run in a major tournament field. 

As for his game, Butorac considers his serve as the strength ofhis play and his favorite surfaces to compete on are indoor hardcourts and grass. Butorac has been coached by Ryan Dussault since2003. Has one younger brother, Jeff, who played tennis for twoyears at St. John's University in Minnesota. His mother, Jan, alsomanages at the Rochester Tennis Connection club. Butorac fancieshimself as a huge Minnesota pro sports fan, following the Twins(baseball), Timberwolves (NBA) and Vikings (NFL).
