Mike Spring

Mike Spring was named an assistant coach for Harvard men'sswimming on Oct. 20, 2008.

Spring returns to Harvard after serving as anassistant coach during the 2006-07 campaign. During that time, heorganized and conducted practices, planned and scheduled teamtravel arrangements and coordinated the daily planning of trainingthe swimmers.

“The team and I are very excited to haveMike returning to our staff,” Murphy said. “Mike is anoutstanding developer of
talent and brings national level coaching experience to ourprogram.”

A veteran of collegiate and internationalcoaching with 29 years of swimming experience, Spring has coachedswimmers to 10 junior national records and guided 24 seniornational qualifiers and six Olympic trial qualifiers. Under hisleadership, four swimmers have qualified for the NCAA championship,one earned All-America status, two won UNYS titles and two capturedECAC championships.

Since 1994, Spring has also worked as theowner and head coach of the Magnus Aquatic Group, a club team ofover 300 swimmers. He began his coaching career in 1990 at Buffalo,where he served as an assistant coach for four seasons. As anassistant there, Spring worked on a new innovative trainingtechnique where graphs are created to show arm rate and velocitiesneeded during training to reach optimum performance.

A 1990 graduate from Buffalo, Spring earnedhis bachelor’s in communication. He also holds an elementaryeducation certificate from Salem State.
