Story Line
The Crimson wraps up its road swing with contests in New York this
week. Harvard plays at Cornell Friday at 7 p.m. and Columbia
Saturday at 4 p.m.
Scouting the Crimson
In its last time out, Harvard fell to Dartmouth, 25-14, 25-22,
25-19. Sophomore Christine Wu led all players with 19 digs on the
night for her 12th contest of the season in double figures. Junior
Mikaelle Comrie led the Crimson with eight kills, while seven other
Crimson players had at least two kills on the night. Sophomore Anne
Carroll Ingersoll registered seven kills and three blocks in the
three-set match.
Ingersoll leads the Crimson in kills per set with 2.92 and blocks
with 0.94 per set. She has also served up 10 aces (0.29 per set)
which is good enough for second on the squad, trailing only
freshman Taylor Docter (0.29). Durwood paces the team in assists
with 9.35 per set, while Wu leads the team in digs with 5.06.
Scouting the Lions
Cornell snapped Columbia's five-match win streak last
Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y., with a 3-1 win. The Lions (10-5, 1-1)
swept the Big Red the week before as part of five straight wins and
eight out of 10.
Freshman Megan Gaughn leads the team and the Ivy League in kills
(4.10). She also paces the team in aces (0.26) and is second in
digs (3.21). Kelsey Musselman paces a trio of setters with 6.05
assists per set. Ellie Thomas has a team-best 4.98 digs per set,
while Monique Roberts averages a team-best 1.03 blocks per set.
The Series
The Crimson owns a 32-10 advantage in the series with the Lions
that dates back to 1981. Harvard has won six straight over the
Lions, including a pair of shutouts last fall.
Scouting the Big Red
Cornell (4-9, 1-1) snapped a six-match losing streak against
Hartford Sept. 26 and has won two in a row entering Friday's
match. The Big Red has won both its five-set matches this season,
but has lost its two four-set contests.
Freshman Deveney Pula leads the team in kills per set with 2.72,
while sophomore Jordan Reeder, the reigning Ivy League Player of
the Week, paces the Big Red in assists with 7.39 per set. Seniors
Megan Mushovic and Juliana Rogers pace the team in digs with 3.93
per set and blocks with 0.76 blocks per set, respectively.
The Series
Cornell leads the series that dates back to 1981, 30-14. The Big
Red has won nine in a row over the Crimson with the last five going
to a fifth set.
Climbing the Ladder
Lily Durwood and Katherine Kocurek already have their names in the
Harvard record books, and their performances this season are
helping them move up the all-time lists. Kocurek is just two digs
away (one to tie) from moving into second on the all-time digs
list. She has 1,291 career digs. She need's 73 digs to take
over the program record. Durwood is just 82 assists away from being
the third Harvard player to accumulate 3,000 handouts. She is third
on the all-time list with 2,918.
Leaders of the Pack
Anne Carroll Ingersoll is one of two Harvard players in the top 10
in the league in hitting. She leads the conference with a .342
hititng percentage, while Sandra Lynn Fryhofer is seventh with a
.285 clip. Ingersoll also ranks in the top 10 in the league in
blocks (second), points (fifth), kills (ninth) and service aces
(10th). Chrstine Wu is third in the league in digs, Lily Durwood is
fourth in assists and Taylor Docter is ninth in service aces.
Dig Pink
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Crimson will do
their part with Dig Pink on Friday, Oct. 30. The program is to
raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer. Last Year, the
nationwide program had 300 college teams participate and raised
$390,000 for cancer research teams focused on target therapies and
molecular profiling as well as "living with cancer" organizations
nationwide.
On the Horizon
Harvard returns home for a pair of conference match ups next
weekend. The Crimson hosts Princeton Oct. 16 (7 p.m.) and Penn Oct.
17 (4 p.m.).
