PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Taylor
Docter led the Crimson with 13 kills and seven blocks as the
Harvard women's volleyball team handed Ivy League champion
Penn its first conference loss of the season Friday night at The
Palestra with a 3-2 win. Harvard won, 25-22, 12-25, 27-25, 25-16,
15-10. The Crimson (12-12, 8-5 Ivy League) snapped a nine-match
losing streak against the Quakers (20-5, 11-1 Ivy)with its first
victory since 2004.
Docter was one of three Crimson players in double-digit kills as
junior Mikaelle Comrie posted 12 kills and sophomore Sandra Lynne
Fryhofer added 10. Senior Lily Durwood spread out the offense as
she posted 47 assists. Sophomore Anne Carroll Ingersoll added seven
kills and five blocks in the win. Defense played a major factor in
the win as three players registered double-digit digs. Sophomore
Christine Wu led the way with 24, followed by senior co-captain
Chelsea Ono Horn with 17 and senior Katherine Kocurek with 12.
The Crimson's play at the net and Penn's misfortune
serving (10 service errors) helped Harvard earn victory. The
Crimson out blocked the Quakers, 12-6. Penn held the advantage in
kill, 82-50, and digs, 98-75. Harvard hit .304 in the fifth set
with no attack errors to seal the victory.
Harvard faces Princeton tomorrow at 4 p.m. in a fight for third
place in the league standings. The Tigers held off Dartmouth Friday
night, 3-2, to improve to 8-4 in Ancient Eight action and remain a
half match ahead of the Crimson. Princeton will play Penn next
Wednesday in its season finale.
