The Quotes
Follow along with Tommy Amaker with select quotes from his
weekly media session, held each Monday in the Lounge overlooking
Lavieties Pavilion's floor.
Harvard's Last Time
Out
Jeremy Lin scored a 3-pointer on a 28-footer at the buzzer
while getting fouled in the third overtime to lead the Crimson over
the Tribe of William & Mary, 87-85. He was fouled en route to
taking the final shot, but the foul didn't matter as the ball went
in just as time expired.
Harvard had a 13-point lead early in the second
half, but a six-minute field goal drought gave the Tribe an
opportunity to get back in the game. William & Mary hit a three
with 29 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force
overtime.
The overtime periods saw both teams battling it
out, with numerous three-point baskets and free throws made by each
side. A foul late in the second overtime gave the Tribe the
opportunity to tie the game yet again and force a third extra
session.
Lin finished the game with 19 points, nine assists,
five rebounds and two steals in 46 minutes of play, while Oliver
McNally added 17 points on 5-10 shooting from behind the arc.
Bryant's Last Time Out
The Bulldogs fell to Bucknell, 59-56, in the World Vision
Invitational finale on Sunday. Despite fighting back from a
20-point deficit early in the second half, the Bulldogs were unable
to finish the run.
Trailing by seven with under a minute to play,
Chris Birrell found the basket from behind the arc to pull the
Bulldogs within four. After a free throw by the Bisons and a field
goal by Barry Latham, Bryant pulled within two with 32 seconds
remaining. However, Bucknell got another chance at the charity
stripe and increased the lead to three, leaving Bryant with little
time to pull out a win.
Cecil Gresham led the team in scoring, as he was
the only Bulldog to reach double digits as he scored 26 points on
the night. Adam Parzych pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
As a team, Bryant shot 37 percent from the floor,
including a 41.2 percent mark from downtown.
Harvard Coach Tommy
Amaker
Tommy Amaker (Duke '87) begins his third season as head
coach of the Harvard men's basketball team. He registered his 200th
career coaching victory Nov. 13 in the 2009-10 season opener at
Holy Cross.
He brings a 201-174 career head coaching record
into the game, including a 109-83 record at Michigan at a 68-55
record at Seton Hall.
Amaker came to Harvard after a six year stint as
Michigan's head coach. Inheriting a program that was reeling from
institutional and NCAA sanctions, he led the Wolverines to the
postseason three times, winning the 2004 NIT title, reaching the
championship game of the 2006 NIT, and advancing to the second
round of the 2007 tournament. The 2006-07 season was Michigan's
second straight 20-win campaign and its third in four years. The
Wolverines were ranked as high as No. 20 in the nation during the
2005-06 season.
