Alexandra Lehman (pictured) posted four wins over the
weekend in singles and doubles play.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard
Invitational featured players from Harvard, Brown, Cornell and
Louisiana State. Players competed in three singles flights and
three doubles flights.
In singles flight 1, freshman Alex Lehman dropped her first match
to Brown's Misia Krasowski, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, but bounced back
to win the two additional matches she played. Sophomore Samantha
Gridley also competed in flight 1, but lost her first match to Cate
Steward of Brown, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Agnes Sibilski defeated Brown's Emily Ellis, 7-6(3),
2-6, 6-4, in the opening round of flight 2, before falling to
Cornell's Sarah O'Neal, 6-3, 6-1, in the semifinal
round. LSU's Ebie Wilson beat sophomore Caroline Davis 7-5,
6-3, in the opening round of the flight. Singles flight 3 was a
round robin format, and sophomore Louise Laciny won both of her
matches. Saturday morning, Laciny defeated LSU's Sloane
Mathis, 6-2, 7-6(2) and beat Leah Seyburn of Cornell Sunday
afternoon, 6-3, 6-0.
The doubles flights used a round robin format, giving teams at
least two matches over the course of the weekend. In flight A,
freshman Hideko Tachibana and Lehman paired up to win both of their
matches, defeating the duo of Misia Krasowski and Julie Flanzer or
Brown, 9-7, and Susan Sullivan and Sarah O'Neal of Cornell.
Sibilski and Davis competed in flight B, dropping both matches they
played. Gridley and Laciny competed in flight C, and won two of
their three matches.
The Crimson opens the spring with a dual match agasint local rival
Boston University Jan. 23.
