CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
- Harvard senior fencer Emily Cross has been
tabbed to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
at-large first team for her effort in the classroom and in
athletics as announced by CoSIDA Thursday. This marks the
second selection for Cross in her Harvard career to the
All-District team.
Cross, a co-captain of the Crimson, earned her second Academic
All-Ivy League nod this season after reaching All-America and
All-Ivy status for the third time in her illustrious career.
Cross placed third at the 2009 NCAA Championships in the foil,
winning 21 bouts and scoring 107 touches along the way. She
also posted a 16-2 record at the Ivy League Championships as
Harvard won its third Ivy title in the last five seasons.
Harvard also finished fifth at the NCAA Championships in
2008-09.
In 2005, Cross won a national individual title, becoming the first
Harvard and fifth Ivy woman to achieve that distinction. In
the following season, Cross helped Harvard win the NCAA team
championship after placing third in the foil. She has also
succeeded at the international level, earning a silver medal with
Team USA at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
