Story Line
Harvard returns home for two contests this week after playing six
matches on the road. The Crimson hosts Holy Cross in its final
non-conference match-up Tuesday before opening Ivy League play
Friday against Dartmouth.
Last Time Out
Harvard won the first set, 25-20, against Wyoming, but the Cowboys
came back and won the final three sets, 25-21, 25-23, 26-24,
Saturday evening in the final game of the Holly Young Invitational.
The contest featured 17 ties and eight lead changes. Senior Lily
Durwood handed out 46 assists, collected nine digs and posted four
blocks to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
Freshman Taylor Docter recorded her first collegiate
double-double, leading the Crimson (3-7) with 14 kills on 37 kills
for a .351 clip and 10 digs. Junior Mikaelle Comrie and sophomore
Sandra Lynne Fryhofer contributed 13 and 11 strikes each.
Defensively, sophomore Christine Wu led all players with 24 digs.
Senior Alissa Flescher added eight kills and five blocks.
Scouting the Crusaders
Holy Cross comes to Cambridge with a 1-11 overall record. The
Crusaders are coming off a 3-1 loss to Brown this past weekend at
the Brown Invitational. Six different players have seven or more
kills against the Bears,
Megan Leach leads the Crusaders with 2.87 kills per set, while
Chelsey O'Donnell paces the squad with 7.89 assists per set
and 16 total service aces. Callie Black has a team best 0.60 blocks
per set and Angela Chisholm has 3.69 digs per set.
Holy Cross has gone the distance three times this season and
played four sets six times. The Crusaders lone win of the season
was a 3-1 victory over Bryant.
Series History
Harvard and Holy Cross have meet on the volleyball court 27 times
since 1985. The Crimson owns a 20-7 lead in the series and has won
14 straight over the Crusaders. The two teams have not met since
2005.
Crimson Statistical Leaders
Sophomore Anne Carroll Ingersoll leads the Crimson in kills (2.79
per set), hitting percentage (.335) and blocks (0.89 per set).
Classmate Christine Wu has a team-best 13 service aces and averages
5.03 digs per set, also a team best.
On the Horizon
The Crimson opens its Ancient Eight schedule against Dartmouth
Friday night at 6 p.m. in the Malkin Athletic Center.
