CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Three players registered
double-digit kills, Christine Wu
notched 23 digs and Beth Kinsella
posted a double double as the Harvard volleyball team defeated
Brown, 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 25-17, 25-13), Saturday evening at the
Malkin Athletic Center.
The Crimson (6-14, 3-5 Ivy League) dominated the final two sets
after the teams split two close sets to start out. Anne Carroll
Ingersoll led all players with 16 kills and had six digs and four
blocks. Mikaelle Comrie
added 11 kills, while Sandra Lynne
Fryhofer recorded 10 kills on just 17 swings for a .529 hitting
percentage. Harvard hit .279 as a team.
Kinsella registered 43 assists and 11 digs. Teresa Skelly led
all players with five blocks, and Fryhofer had four, one solo, as
Harvard limited Brown (7-13, 1-7) to .177 hitting. Emma Pastore
paced the Bears with 12 kills, while Alexandra Rieckhoff logged 33
assists.
The teams battled neck-and-neck through the first 20 points of
the match, but a Skelly kill gave Harvard an 11-10 lead and started
an 8-0 run. The Bears fought back and later won three straight
points to tie the first set at 24-24. The Crimson sealed the set
win with an Ingersoll kill and a block by Comrie and Fryhofer.
The second set remained close until Brown won three straight
points to take control at 23-20 and went on to a two-point win.
Harvard bounced back quickly, going up by an 8-3 count before
cruising to an eight-point win in the third set.
Up 19-12 in the fourth set, the Crimson reeled off kills on five
straight points and six of the final seven. Comrie had the first
two kills in that run before finishing the match with another.
Harvard hit for a .382 percentage in the final set, connecting on
half of its 34 attempts.
