NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- In the quarterfinal round of
the College Squash Association national men's team championships,
the fifth-ranked Harvard men's squash team fell to No. 4 Princeton,
8-1, Friday afternoon. The Crimson drops to 5-5 overall,
while the Tigers move to 10-3.
Co-captain Colin West earned Harvard's lone victory of the day,
defeating Todd Harrity at the No. 1 spot. West took the first
two games, 11-9 and 11-4, before Harrity tied the matcfh with his
own 11-9 and 11-4 victories. In the fifth and decisive set,
West handled Harrity, 11-4. West improves his record at the
top position to 9-1 this season.
At the No. 3 slot, Harvard's Zeke Scherl opening with an 11-9 win
in the first game against Christopther Callis, but Callis claimed
the next three games, 11-9, 11-3, 11-8. The Crimson also
grabbed early leads at slots 6, 8 and 9. At the No. 6
position, Eliot Buchanan had a 1-0 lead after earning an 11-6
victory in game one against Jesus Pena. Pena stormed back to
edge Buchanan, 11-8 and 12-10, in games two and three before
clinching the match with an 11-4 showing in game four.
William Ahmed held off Clay Blackiston, 11-8, in the first set at
the No. 8 slot, before Blackiston took the next three games, 11-8,
11-6, 11-7. At the No. 9 position, Alexander Ma also grabbed
an 11-8 win in game one, before falling to Philip Sopher, 11-7,
11-9, 11-5 in consecutive sets.
The Crimson, which moves to the consolation bracket, will face No.
8 Western Ontario Saturday at 6 p.m.
