HATCHVILLE, Mass. – The
Harvard women's golf team continued its impressive streak of
play as the Crimson topped four other schools to win the Dartmouth
Spring Invitational at the Cape Cod Country Club. Harvard won the
two-round tournament by an impressive 38 shots, easily besting
second place Siena.
Harvard led after one round by 12 stokes following a respectable
opening round of 301. The Crimson was even better on Sunday,
posting a 288 – which was 26 shots better than Siena.
Christine
Cho and Claire Sheldon
went head-to-head for the individual title and were tied at 74 each
following the first round. Cho pulled past Sheldon on Sunday with
her round of 70 while Sheldon again shot a 74.
Harvard had five of the top six finishers as Chloe Altchek
(76-74-150) and Sarah Harvey
(75-75-150) tied for third; Mia Kabasakalis (78-74-152) placed
sixth and Katie Sylvan
(83-70-153) placed seventh.
Harvard golfers recorded the lowest rounds on both days as
Sheldon and Cho had 74s on Saturday and Sylvan and Cho shot
70's on Sunday.
Jane Lee
rounded out Harvard's entries with a 10th place
finish after shooting consecutive rounds of 80.
Sheldon led all golfers in par 3 scoring as she averaged a 3.2
for the tournament. Cho mastered the par 4 holes with a -1 showing
for the tournament. Harvey and Sylvan were two of only three
golfers to finish under par on the par 5s with each shooting -2
scores during the weekend.
Sylvan had an eagle and Cho led all golfers with six birdies.
All told, Harvard golfers made 20 birdies and 107 pars on the
weekend.
