earned all-tournament honors for Harvard (Gil Talbot).
BRONX, N.Y. – After compiling a 1-1 record in day
one of the Fordham Invitational, the Harvard women's volleyball
team dropped decisions to Stony Brook and Syracuse in day two of
the tournament. The Crimson now stands at 2-5 on the season.
Stony Brook jumped out to a quick lead in the opening set and
maintained a comfortable advantage to secure a 25-19 win in the
opening set. The Crimson responded in the second set, taking a 13-9
lead midway through the stanza, but a 15-6 run by the Seawolves led
them to another 25-19 set win. The two teams stayed close through
the early part of the third set but the Crimson put together a 9-1
run to pull away for a 25-20 win in the third set. The fourth set
saw both teams stay within four points of one another the entire
set but the Seawolves converted some timely hitting down the
stretch to seal the 3-1 match win.

Carroll Ingersoll, in her first action of the season, led the
Harvard attack with eight kills and added four total blocks for the
match. Teresa

Fryhofer each recorded five blocks and Christine Wu had a
match-high 18 digs. Alicia Nelson led the Seawolves with 18 kills
and Ashley Headen chipped in with 15 kills in the win.
In the final match of the tournament, Syracuse vaulted out to a
19-10 lead and captured the first set 25-13. The Crimson closed the
gap over the final two sets but was unable to top the Orange,
falling by a final score of 3-0. Mikaelle Comrie
had seven kills for the Crimson while Erin Cooney added
six in the loss. Christine Wu totaled 14 digs and Fryhofer and Taylor
Docter each had three blocks for the match. Noemie Lefebvre led
all hitters with 13 kills for the Orange.
Syracuse captured the tournament title, compiling a 4-0 record
over the two days of competition. Harvard's Christine Wu earned
all-tournament honors, totaling 65 digs over the four matches.
Harvard is back in action Sept. 14, as the Crimson travels to
Holy Cross for a 7:00 p.m., midweek matchup.
