EVANSTON, Ill. – The Harvard women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to host Northwestern and Charlotte, to wrap up its stay at the Northwestern Invitational Saturday. The Crimson has dropped the past six contests and falls to 2-9 on the season.  

Against the Wildcats, Harvard hung with the hosts through a large portion of the first set, working its way out to a 17-15 lead. A quick 5-0 run by Northwestern put it in the driver's seat as it finished out the set, 25-19. Despite an early 4-0 lead in the second set for the Crimson, Northwestern put together its best hitting set at .357, totaling 14 kills in the 25-13 win. The Wildcats added 16 more kills in the final set and captured a 25-20 win to seal the 3-0 victory.

Mikaelle Comrie led the Crimson with eight kills and added a block while Sandra Lynne Fryhofer added six to the Harvard total. Beth Kinsella tallied 21 assists and Edirin Sido had a Harvard-best three blocks on the game. Naomi Johnson (12) and Stephanie Holthus (10) led the Wildcats in kills while Elyse Glab totaled 31 assists in the win.  

In the final game of the tournament, Harvard started strong against Charlotte, taking a 7-4 lead on a series of 49er miscues. An 8-2 run swung the lead to Charlotte and the 49ers totaled 17 kills en route to a 25-18 win in set one. The second set saw the 49ers grab an early lead and hold it throughout the set to seal a second 25-18 win. Charlotte came out hitting to start the third and launched out to a 10-3 lead and the Crimson was unable to close the gap and fell 25-16 for its second 3-0 loss of the day.

Anne Carroll Ingersoll led Harvard with five kills while Kinsella had 16 assists in the loss. Bianca Rouse topped all hitters with nine kills and Kara Raker had a game-high five blocks for the 49ers. For her play in the tournament, Comire was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.

Harvard kicks off its Ivy League schedule in its next match as it travels to Hanover, N.H., Sept. 24 to take on Dartmouth in a 7:00 p.m., game.
