CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard sailing team beat out host Tufts and 18 other schools to capture the Professor Steadman Hood Trophy this weekend. The coed team also captured fifth at the St. Mary's Fall Intersectional and competed at the Commonwealth Invitational. The women's team sailed at the Women's Regis Bowl hosted by Boston University.

Consistency was the key to victory for the Crimson at the Hood Trophy, an intersectional regatta featuring 20 teams. Among 28 races, Harvard only finished first three times but notched 22 top-five finishes. Seniors Alan Palmer and Quincy Bock recorded a score of 83, good for second in the A division. In the B division, Tedd Hilmer and Brendan Kopp split the skipper duties, while Alma Lafler and William White crewed the team to first place in the division with 58 points.

Another pair of seniors helped pace Harvard to a fifth-place finish at the St. Mary's Fall Intersectional. John Stokes and Meghan Wareham tallied 125 points in the A division, good for fifth. The Crimson finished with 273 points overall, while host St. Mary's won the regatta with 137 points.

Four freshmen comprised the Harvard squad at the Women's Regis Bowl. Caitlin Watson and Louisa French finished seventh in the B division with 92 points, just four behind Rhode Island. The Crimson finished ninth overall.

Harvard also placed ninth at the Commonwealth Invitational, Central Series Three, hosted by MIT.

Earlier in the week, the Crimson had five pairs compete at the Midweek Tech Invitational, also hosted by MIT. Ames Lyman and Alice Kenney were the top finishers for the Crimson, as they sailed to a fourth-place finish.

Seven regattas are scheduled for the upcoming week including the New England Women's Singlehanded Championships, the Danmark Trophy, the Smith Trophy, and the Charles River Invitational hosted by Harvard.
