CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Harvard
women's hockey great Angela Ruggiero '02-04 will be
inducted into the National Italian Sports Hall of Fame (NASHF), the
organization announced. The ceremony will take place Oct. 22 in
Chicago and will be celebrating the 33rd induction class in the
history of the organization.
Ruggiero is one of five honorees, and the only female, to be
inducted in this year's ceremony. She joins former Patriots
linebacker Tedy Bruschi, Michigan State men's basketball
coach Tom Izzo, former baseball player/manager Ken Aspromonte and
for baseball star Bob Aspromonte on the list of this year's
inductees.
Ranked sixth in Harvard team history in points, Ruggiero was one
of the most decorated skaters to come through Cambridge. She helped
the Crimson to a national championship in 1999 and became
Harvard's fourth Patty Kazmaier Award recipient when she took
home the prestigious award as a senior. She has represented the
United States in every Olympic Games that has hosted women's
ice hockey, helping Team USA to a gold medal in 1998, silvers in
2002 and 2010 and a bronze in 2006. She has also led the United
States to three world championships .
