The Particulars
The Harvard women's tennis team returns home after placing
fourth at the ECAC Indoor Championship in Princeton, N.J. to face
No. 75 William & Mary and No. 63 Purdue this weekend.
About Harvard
After beginning the season ranked 44th in the preseason ITA team
poll, the Crimson have dropped to No. 68 following a 3-5 start.
Harvard went 1-2 last weekend competing in the ECAC Indoor
Championship. The Crimson picked up a 6-1 win over Cornell in the
first round, but dropped matches to No. 34 Yale and No. 53
Brown.
Holly Cao remains undefeated as Harvard's No. 1. Cao earned
two victories last weekend to improve to 6-0 in spring duals and
13-2 dating back to the fall.
About William & Mary
The Tribe is 4-4 this season and enters the weekend with a national
ranking of 75. William & Mary will take on Boston University
Friday afternoon before taking on the Crimson Saturday.
William & Mary is coming off back-to-back loses to No. 43 Ohio
State and No. 49 Marshall. The Buckeyes rolled the Tribe, 7-0,
while the Thundering Herd took a 4-3 decision from William &
Mary.
Katie Kargl holds a 6-2 record this spring from the No. 4 and 5
spots, to lead the Tribe.
About Purdue
The Boilermakers enter the weekend with a 6-1 mark and a national
ranking of 63. Purdue will face Boston College Saturday in
Weymouth. Mass. before its Sunday match against the Crimson.
Purdue has won its last two matches by identical 5-2 scores. The
Boilermakers took down Kentucky Feb. 13 and Missouri Feb. 20. Their
lone loss this season came against No. 25 South Carolina.
Winning the doubles point has been integral to the Boilermakers
success this season. In all six of its wins, Purdue has won the
doubles point. The Boilermakers lost the doubles point in their
only defeat this season.
Looking Ahead
The Crimson will play its next six matches on the road following
this weekend. A three-match road swing in California awaits
Harvard, March 15-18, before returning east to face Va.
Commonwealth (March 27), Cornell (Apr. 1) and Columbia (Apr.
2).
