The Particulars
The No. 66 Harvard women's tennis team hosts No. 36
Yale in a critical Ivy League match Friday at the Beren Tennis
Center before heading to Providence, R.I. to take on No. 45 Brown
Sunday. The Crimson and Bulldogs are tied with 3-1 records in Ivy
play behind Brown and Dartmouth who each holds a 4-0 record and
faceoff Friday afternoon.
About Harvard
The Crimson is looking to rebound from its first
conference loss to Princeton last Sunday, 4-3. The loss put Harvard
in a third-place tie with Yale, with matches remaining against only
Brown and Dartmouth, the two Ivy schools ahead of the Crimson in
the standings.
Kristin Norton notched her 11th win of the season, downing
Taylor Marable of Princeton, 6-2, 7-5. Only Holly Cao, with a 12-1
record in singles play, has more wins that Norton this
spring.
Hideko Tachibana is seeking her 10th victory of the season as
she holds a 9-4 singles record heading into the match against the
Bulldogs. Tachibana and Norton have paired together to earn a 7-4
as the Crimson's top doubles duo.
Hannah Morrill garnered three victories against Penn and
Princeton last weekend, winning both her singles matches and a
doubles match with parner Cao.
About Yale
The No. 36 Bulldogs enter Friday's match with an
overall 18-4 mark and 3-1 in Ancient Eight play.
Yale opened Ivy competition with a 5-2 win over Penn, but fell
the following day to Princeton, 5-2. The Bulldogs topped Columbia
(6-1) and Cornell (7-0) last weekend.
Victoria Brook paced the Bulldogs against Cornell with a 7-5,
7-6(5) victory in teh No. 1 match. The rest of singles play
followed with straight-set wins in Yales favor. The Bulldogs also
picked up two of three in doubles play to sweep the Big Red.
About Brown
The Bears enter the weekend with a 15-6 overall record and
sit atop the Ivy League standings with a 4-0 record, tied with
Friday opponent Dartmouth.
Brown is on a five-match win streak dating back to a close 4-3
victory over Old Dominion March 29.
Cassandra Herzberg, Jessica Harrow, Ariel Caldwell and Julie
Flanzer each picked up two singles wins last weekend to propel the
Bears past Columbia and Cornell.
Series Histories
The Crimson holds the all-time series lead over the Bulldogs,
25-16. The teams split a pair of matches last season with Yale
taking a 6-1 decision in February and Harvard securing a 4-3 win in
April.
Harvard holds a 31-6 all-time advantage over the Bears, winning
last season's match, 5-2.
