CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bryant junior wide receiver Jordan Harris and Springfield freshman quarterback Jonathan Marrero have been named the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award winners for the week of Oct. 15.
Harris dominated on the field to help the Bulldogs earn their first win of 2012, 38-35, over Robert Morris. The Pennsylvania native made 10 grabs for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Both of his touchdown grabs came in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner from 16 yards out with 5:15 remaining on the clock. The game was the third time Harris has gone over the 200-yard mark in his career, and his final touchdown catch was the 19th of his career, which equaled Matt Tracey for the program record. Harris is the second Bulldog to win a Gold Helmet award this season, joining running back Jordan Brown, who won the award Sept. 12.
Marrero torched the US Merchant Marine Academy through the air and on the ground in a 66-13 win. The Boston native ran for 144 yards and three touchdowns in the first half and also completed 6-of-8 passes for 163 yards and four scores to help the Pride build a 49-7 halftime lead. In total, he accounted for 307 yards of total offense and tied the Springfield College single-game record for touchdown passes.
