CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's
soccer team dropped an ivy League contest to Columbia by a score of
1-0 Saturday evening at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium.
Evan
Mendez made one stop in net for Harvard (2-10-3, 0-5-1 Ivy
League), while Columbia goalkeeper Kyle Jackson recorded six saves
for the Lions (4-7-4, 2-2-2).
The Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute off a header by
Quentin Grigsby. At 36:59, Frederick Elliot made a long toss from
the right side on a throw-in, and Grigsby deflected the ball with
his head past Mendez.
Columbia held a 7-4 edge in shots in the first half, while Lions
goalkeeper Kyle Jackson recorded two stops in period one.
In the second half, Brian Rogers managed a shot on target at
53:03, and Oliver White
followed with a chance on net at 58:31, but both were snared by
Jackson.
In the 73rd minute, Kyle
Henderson got another shot on goal, but Jackson kept Harvard
off the scoreboard. The Crimson earned two more scoring chances in
the final minutes, but headers by White and Rogers were turned
away.
Harvard led, 13-10, in shots, including 7-2 on target, while the
Crimson also had an edge in corner kicks, 6-3.
