Men’s Soccer Hosts Dartmouth Saturday with Ivy Tournament Berth on the Line

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University men's soccer concludes its regular season with an Ivy League Tournament berth on the line when it hosts Dartmouth College on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at Jordan Field.

The Crimson (4-7-3, 2-3-1 Ivy) and Big Green (4-6-4, 2-3-1 Ivy) enter Saturday level with Princeton and Brown in a four-team tie at seven conference points. The top four teams in the final standings advance to the Ivy League Tournament.

Saturday's contest will air live on ESPN+. Harvard will honor its senior class following the match as part of the program's Senior Day celebrations.

WHAT TO KNOW

WIN AND IN

  • Harvard will clinch a berth in the Ivy League Tournament with a victory over Dartmouth.
  • A win would move the Crimson to 10 points and guarantee Harvard one of the four tournament positions, regardless of the results between other Ivy teams.
  • Harvard can also qualify with a draw, but it would need Princeton to lose to Penn and Brown to either lose or draw against Yale.
  • If Harvard and Dartmouth draw while Princeton and Brown both lose, Harvard would advance through the two-team tiebreaker with Dartmouth. The teams would be level in their head-to-head meeting and results against Cornell, but Harvard's draw against Penn would give it an advantage over Dartmouth, who lost to the Quakers earlier this season.
  • If Harvard and Dartmouth draw, Princeton loses and Brown draws, Harvard would win a three-team tiebreaker with Dartmouth and Brown. Harvard would own four cumulative points against the other tied teams after defeating Brown and drawing Dartmouth. Brown would have three points and Dartmouth would have one.
  • A Harvard loss would eliminate the Crimson, as Dartmouth would move to 10 points and join Cornell, Penn and Yale above Harvard in the final standings.

IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT RACE

  • Cornell has clinched a tournament berth and enters the final weekend atop the standings with 16 points.
  • Penn and Yale are tied for second with nine points apiece.
  • Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth and Harvard are all tied with seven points, creating a four-team race for the remaining positions.
  • The other matches affecting Harvard's tournament chances are Princeton against Penn at 3 p.m. and Brown against Yale at 1 p.m.
  • Saturday marks the second straight year in which Harvard and Dartmouth will meet in their regular-season finale with an Ivy League Tournament berth at stake.
  • Harvard defeated Dartmouth, 3-1, in Hanover last season to claim the fourth and final tournament seed.
