CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three current and one former
member of the Harvard women's hockey team will represent the
United States at the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation
(IIHF) Women's World Championship, USA Hockey announced
Sunday. Current players Jillian Dempsey, Michelle Picard and
Josephine Pucci and former standout Julie Chu '06-07 will
skate for Team USA at the competition in Burlington, Vt.
While all four skaters have played for Team USA before, Dempsey
and Picard will be playing their first IIHF tournament in 2012.
Pucci and Chu helped Team USA to its third-straight tournament
title in 2011 in Zurich, Switzerland, topping rival Canada, 3-2 in
overtime, in the Championship game. Harvard and Team USA head coach
Katey Stone will look to keep her stellar tournament record intact
as she has led the U.S. squad to victories at the 2011 IIHF
Women's World Championship, 2011 Twelve Nations Cup and 2011
Four Nations Cup.
Tournament play in Burlington begins April 7 and continues
through the 14th. The United States opens the Championship against
Canada April 7 in a 7 p.m. game.
