Full Fall Schedule
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard sailing
team has announced its fall schedule for the 2012-13 season which
currently features 21 regattas.
The coed team is coming off a fifth-place finish at the 2012
ICSA/Gill Dinghy Coed National Championship, marking the third
consecutive year Harvard has finished in the top five. The Crimson
also won its first New England title in 11 years and took third at
the ICSA coed national semifinals. The women finished fifth at the
Women's New England Championship and eighth at the Sperry
Top-Spider/ICSA Women's National Championship.
A combined 25 student-athletes (12 men and 13 women) have
previously competed for Crimson sailing, including the lone senior,
Jason Michas. Michas helped the Crimson place seventh out of 19
teams at the Boston Dinghy Cup in March.
The 14 juniors help comprise the largest class on this
season's roster. Sarah Piersen and Brendan Kopp '12 placed second in the A
division at the coed national championship. Co-captain Isabel Ruane was part of the crew for the A
division boat at the women's national championship, while
fellow-captain Benjamin Lamont led the B division boat to a
seventh-place finish at the George Morris Trophy as skipper.
At the coed national championship, sophomores Brian Drumm and Michael Drumm teamed up with Emily Lambert '12 to help Harvard finish
13th in the B division.
The Crimson opens the season Sept. 8-9 by competing for the
Harry Anderson Trophy at Yale and the Tufts Central Series 1 at
Tufts. The University of Wisconsin edged second-place Harvard by
nine points to win the regatta last year. The women will sail in
the Toni Deutsch '58 Regatta at MIT Sept. 8-9.
Harvard will look to defend the Hood Trophy Sept. 22-23 when the
coed team sails at Tufts. Both the coed and women's teams
will compete in the Atlantic Coast Championships Nov. 10-11. The
coed championships will take place at King's Point, while the
women will compete at Connecticut College. The coed team took 11th
last year, and the women finished 12th.
