Women's Tennis Travels to Vanderbilt for ITA Kickoff

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team hits the road for Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the ITA Kickoff tournament, hosted by No. 12 Vanderbilt. The Crimson will take on the host Commodores January 24, and will face either No. 22 Texas or DePaul the following day.

Last Time Out
In the first dual match of its spring schedule, Harvard won all nine matches to beat Rhode Island, 7-0, and move to 1-0 on the season.

June Lee earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep from the No. 1 spot, while Nikki Kallenberg, Sylvia Li, and Annika Ringblom each won twelve of thirteen games from the second, third and sixth positions, respectively. Playing No. 4 singles, Monica Lin defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4, and Amy He triumphed 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot. The Crimson combined to win the six singles matches 72-11.

Dominating doubles play as well, the tandems of Lee/M. Lin and Li/Amanda Lin earned 8-0 shutouts while Ringblom and Kallenberg ended on top, 8-4.

#LetsGoH
Playing in five tournaments during the fall, Harvard earned plenty of hardware. The Crimson won two of three flights at the Cissie Leary Invitational, all-four singles groups at the Billie Jean King Invite, and every division at the Harvard Invitational.

In 2014-15, freshman Ellen Jang-Milsten leads the team with 13 singles victories, with sophomore June Lee  close behind with 12. All of Harvard's student-athletes sport a record above .500. In doubles play, Monica Lin has combined with teammates for 14 wins, while Sylvia Li and Annika Ringblom have 11 apiece.

The Crimson student-athletes have combined for a 113-40 overall record, including a 78-27 mark in singles play and 35-13 record in doubles.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Harvard's three freshmen have adjusted well to collegiate tennis, combining for a 27-7 record in singles play and 24-9 when paired with a teammate. Nikki Kallenberg won the A-division at the Billie Jean King Invitational, Ellen Jang-Milsten won the A-division at the Harvard Invitational, and Annika Ringblom paired with Monica Lin to win the doubles flight at the Cissie Leary Invitational.

Home Court Advantage
The Crimson has excelled at home over the past three seasons, posting a 26-8 record in dual matches, including a 7-2 mark last season. Harvard has eight home dual contests on its spring schedule, and is 1-0 to start 2015.

On the Sidelines
Traci Green is in her eighth season at the helm for the Crimson. Under her guidance, Harvard won the program's 18th Ivy League title in 2009 with a 13-8 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark. Green owns a 74-63 overall record, including a 72-46 mark over the past six-plus seasons, and 30-19 mark in the Ancient Eight.

What's Next
Harvard travels to Boston College for a dual match on January 31 at 4 p.m. The event will take place in Dedham, Massachusetts at the Dedham Health and Fitness Club.
