Bulldog Invite Results
Nikki Kallenberg and Amy He lead the Crimson as they finish undefeated in their singles matches at the Bulldog Invite hosted by Yale (Zack Williamson).
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The women's tennis team traveled to New Haven, Connecticut to compete in the three-day Bulldog Invite, hosted by Yale, in which they faced Rutgers on Friday, a hybrid team of Columbia and Yale on Saturday and Yale on Sunday. Overall the team finished with a 15-9 record.
In Friday's opening matches against Rutgers, Harvard's Nikki Kallenberg and Sabrina Xiong sailed past Chloe Lee and Ksenija Tihomirova, 8-4. The duo of Annika Ringblom and Erica Oosterhout could not compete against Gina Li and Mariam Zein as they lost 8-3. June Lee and Isabel Jasper also could not find their groove as Lindsey Kayati and Farris Cunningham beat them 8-6.
The Crimson's singles play was much stronger as all but one match was won. Ringblom made a comeback beating Li with scores of 7-5, 0-6, 6-3, while Kallenberg also won her match against Lee, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Harvard's Lee competed against Mariam Zein and came out on top, 7-6 (6) and 6-4. Danielle Mirda and Amanda He also had strong performances as they won 6-3 and 6-1, and 6-1 and 6-0, respectively. The Scarlet Knights' Cunningham took the match from Isabel Jasper, with scores of 7-5 and 6-0.
On Saturday, the Crimson faced a hybrid team of opponents from Yale and Columbia. Ringblom and Oosterhout kept the Bulldog's Sherry Li and Lion's Alexandra Solovyev in line with a victory score of 8-6. Mirda and He had success as they squeezed past Lion's Lindsey Mendelson and Sarah Hu 8-7 (4). Harvard's doubles team of Lee and Xiong were unable to fight back as they lost 8-6 against Yale's Sonal Shrivastava and Courtney Amos.
Kallenberg won her second match of the weekend with ease over Solovyev with scores of 6-0 and 6-4. Ringblom took control of her match as she came back from behind beating Li 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7) while Lee also tallied a triumph against Shrivastava, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (4). Mirda battled against Mendelson as she was able to slip in a win with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. Crimson's He would not give the Lion's Hu a chance as she won her match in two sets, 7-6 (3) and 6-1. Oosterhout was unable to come from behind as Columbia's Solovyev tallied the win with scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
The Crimson battled against Pittsburgh on Sunday in its final day of the invite. In doubles play, Xiong and Oosterhout were the only Crimson pair to record a win on the day against Audrey Ann Blakely and Gabriela Rezende, 8-3. Panther's Lolade Ogungbesan and Carina Ma sailed past Ringblom and Kallenberg 8-4 while their teammates Amber Washington and Callie Frey had similar results against Harvard's Jasper and He, 8-4.
Oosterhout recorded her second win in the invite as she beat Ogungbesan 6-3 and 6-4. Kallenberg also took a match in two tallying her third victory of the weekend against Rezende, 6-4 and 7-5 while Crimson's He came from behind with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Frey. Ringblom, Jasper, and Mirda were unable to record wins on the day losing in two sets a piece.
The Crimson will travel from Oct. 23-26 to Hanover, New Hampshire for the ITA Regional Championships.
