BERKELEY, Calif. – After falling behind early, No. 46 Harvard women's tennis could not recover, falling 7-0 at No. 5 California, 7-0. The loss drops Harvard to 4-3 on the season.
The Golden Bears got out to an early 1-0 lead after winning doubles matches from the top two positions. Competing in the No. 1 slot, Monica Lin and Annika Ringblom fell to No. 8 Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr, 8-2. Sylvia Li and Ellen Jang Milsten, going up against the nation's No.16 tandem, lost 8-1.
In singles play, Nikki Kallenberg battled with the top-ranked singles player in the country in Manasse, and ultimately dropped the match in straight sets. Amanda Lin won the lone set for the Crimson, taking the second frame from Cal's Cecilia Estlander in the sixth singles position.
The Crimson finishes its four-contest road swing with matchups at Maryland, Feb. 21 at noon, and George Washington, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m.
