CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 15 Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew completed day one of the Clemson Invitational Saturday on Lake Hartwell. The Black and White V4 and 2V each won a heat on the day.
The second varsity finished third in its first event of the day, placing just 0.3 of a second behind Ohio State. In its second race, the Black and White posted a time of 6:37.8 to win, just under two seconds ahead of Oregon State.
The varsity four also won its second heat, clocking a time of 7:26.3 to finish a half-length ahead of Indiana and seven seconds in front of Indiana. In its first race of the day, the V4+ took fourth (7:36.2), behind Virginia, Ohio State and Syracuse.
The varsity eight earned a fourth-place finish against a strong field in its first heat. No. 1 Ohio State won with a time of 6:25.7, followed by No. 4 Virginia (6:29.7), No. 12 Indiana (6:31.6) and Radcliffe (6:37.5).
The third varsity also posted a strong day, finishing third in its first heat and second later in the afternoon. Behind Virginia and OSU, the Black and White clocked a time of 6:55.0. Speeding up in race two, Radcliffe stopped the clock in 6:46.4 to finish behind Michigan State N8.
The Black and White will be back in action tomorrow at 7:37 a.m.
