Home Course Awaits No. 14 Radcliffe Heavyweight Crew

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the first time this season, the No. 14 Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew will be on the Charles River facing Yale for the Case Cup Saturday morning beginning at 8:50 a.m.

Streaming for the race has been cancelled due to windy conditions and a tight race schedule on the Charles. 

Race Schedule
8:50 a.m. – varsity eight
9:10 a.m. – second varsity
9:30 a.m. – varsity four A
9:50 a.m. – varsity four B
10:10 a.m. – third varsity

Last Time Out
Radcliffe wrapped racing at the Clemson Invitational last Sunday, as the varsity eight finished third in its final event of the weekend. With steady rain and a wind from the east, the Black and White clocked a time of 6:34.3, five seconds off the pace of Washington State in second. Virginia won the event with a time of 6:28.0. Oregon State was open water behind Radcliffe for fourth.

Case Cup
In a race that dates back to 1980, Yale holds a 19-15-1 all-time series record over Radcliffe, including wins in each of the last three meetings. The Black and White last won in 2011.  

Scouting the Bulldogs
No. 10 Yale was last in action a week ago against Princeton, as the Tigers retained the Eisenberg Cup with a two-second win over the Bulldogs. Head coach Will Porter, in his 16th season at the helm of Yale, has led the squad to the NCAA Championships 13 times over his tenure.

In the Polls
Radcliffe opened the season tied for No. 12 in the NCAA rankings and currently sits at No. 14. Ohio State remains in the top spot with 17 first place votes, followed by California, Virginia, Brown and Washington.

In the Launch
In her 29th season of guiding the Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crews in 2014-15, head coach Liz O'Leary owns a 194-98 career dual record with 15 appearances in the NCAA Championship, including the 2003 title and a 2005 bronze medal finish. 

Last Season
For the fourth-straight year and 16th time in the 18-year history of the event, Radcliffe earned a bid to the NCAA Championships. The Black and White finished 13th overall after improving their spot at the Ivy League Championships to place third two weeks earlier.

The Black and White will be back in action May 17 for the Ivy League Championships in Camden, New Jersey.
