Women's Tennis Competes in Three-Day ECAC Indoor Championship

 

Together the team boasts a 71-47 record this year (Zack Williamson).    

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing away from home for the first time this winter, Harvard women's tennis travels to Hanover, New Hampshire for the ECAC Indoor Championship from Feb. 5-7, hosted by Dartmouth. 

Last Time Out
The Crimson dropped its second match of the year to No. 48 Boston College, 4-3. June Lee defeated No. 47 Lexi Borr with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Erica Oosterhout secured a victory against Emily Safron, 6-1, 6-3, and senior Amy He also clinched a singles win versus the Eagles' Wan-Yi Sweeting, 6-4, 6-2.

About Harvard
The Crimson competed in four tournaments in the fall, including the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional. Nikki Kallenberg leads Harvard with an 11-3 record while teammates Erica Oosterhout and Amy He follow with 9-4 and 8-3 marks, respectively. Annika Ringblom wraps up the top four with an 8-5 record. Ringblom and Amanda Lin lead the Crimson with an undefeated 5-0 mark in doubles play. Harvard boasts a 71-47 overall record, going 49-29 in singles play and 22-18 in doubles.

In the Ranks
Harvard's doubles pairing of Amanda Lin and Annika Ringblom broke into the national rankings at No. 52, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Jan. 5. Nikki Kallenberg fell to No. 125 as of Jan. 5 after being ranked No. 98 in the preseason poll.

Back in Crimson
Sophomores Nikki Kallenberg, Annika Ringblom, Ellen Jang-Milsten, juniors June Lee and Danielle Mirda, and seniors Amy He and Amanda Lin return from the 2014-15 squad that went 7-12 overall. Kallenberg is currently ranked No. 98 by the ITA and Ringblom was named to the All-Ivy League second team in doubles a year ago, concluding the season after recording a 16-12 season with a partner, including 3-4 mark in Ivy League play.

Fresh Faces
Head Coach Traci Green added the eighth-best recruiting class in the country according to TennisRecruiting.net. Erica Oosterhout, Sabrina Xiong, Isabel Jasper and Claire Spackman come to Harvard from around the world to make up Harvard's third consecutive top-ten class, and fifth in the past seven seasons. Oosterhout was ranked No. 8 in the top-10 Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Newcomer/Freshmen Rankings.

On the Sidelines
Traci Green is in her ninth season at the helm for the Crimson. Under her guidance, Harvard won the program's 18th Ivy League title in 2009 with a 13-8 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark. Green owns a 114-104 overall record, including an 80-76 mark over the past nine seasons.  

Aye Aye, Captain
Senior Amy He was chosen to be the team's captain for the 2015-16 academic year. He is the 53rd captain in program history.

Harvard matches up against Portland on Saturday, Feb. 13 for a noon start in the Murr Center. The event will be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network.
