CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew swept Georgetown to retain the Class of 2004 Cup Saturday morning on the Charles River.
The varsity eight, racing against Georgetown's top boat and the Radcliffe second varsity, clocked a time of 7:11.6. The Black and White utilized a strong start to pull ahead of the Hoyas by the 250-meter mark. With a six mph headwind, the second varsity kept pace with the Radcliffe top boat before dropping off the pace after 500 meters. The 2V boat finished 15 seconds ahead of the Hoya V8, stopping the clock in 7:27.2. Georgetown finished in 7:42.5.
The varsity four also posted a solid start, distancing itself from the Hoyas over the first 100 meters. Radcliffe steadily built its lead by the bridge and eased to a 26-second victory. The Black and White finished with a time of 8:44.2.
