CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The second-ranked Radcliffe women's lightweight crew suffered a season-opening loss to No. 8 Georgetown Saturday on the Charles River. The Black and White also hosted Bates in a trio of varsity eight races.
The three Radcliffe lightweight races were among the first to go off early Saturday morning as all four Harvard-Radcliffe crews competed on the Charles River. The morning racing featured temperatures around 40 degrees and winds at 10 mph to the northwest. Conditions on the water were slightly-to-moderately choppy.
The Hoyas earned the Class of 2004 Cup for the second-straight season with their win in the varsity eight. Georgetown stopped the timer in 7:04.716, a sizable margin over second-place Bates (7:20.845) and Radcliffe (7:22.967).
Bates secured the win in the second varsity action, posting a winning time of 7:31.401. Georgetown took second (7:40.644), while Radcliffe clocked in at 7:44.989. The third varsity race was a head-to-head matchup between Bates and Radcliffe with the Bobcats earning the win.
