CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's squash swept the major 2018-19 Ivy League individual awards and landed three student-athletes on the all-conference first team, the league announced today. First-year Victor Crouin was named the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year, with Mike Way capturing Ivy League Coach-of-the-Year honors.
Crouin is the 18th Ivy League Player of the Year in Harvard men's squash history, with the last being Ali Farag in the 2013-14 season. It is the first time in Harvard history that a first-year has been named Ivy League Player of the Year and only the second time in program history that a Crimson athlete has won both player and rookie of the year honors in the same season, dating back to the 2011-12 season when Farag accomplished the feat.
Crouin, who was also a first-team all-Ivy selection, finished the season with an 11-2 record and a 6-1 mark in the Ivy League at the team's top spot.
For Gregory Lee '87 and Russell Ball '88 Endowed Coach for Harvard University Mike Way, this is his third coach-of-the-year honor in nine seasons on the men's side, with the others coming in 2014-15 and 2016-17. Harvard captured its second Potter Cup and fifth Ivy League title under his direction.
Joining Crouin on the All-Ivy first team were first-year Marwan Tarek and junior Timothy Brownell. All three were unanimously voted to the all-conference team.
Brownell earned a 12-1 record on the season, including wins in all three playoff games over the weekend. Tarek, meanwhile, finished with a team-high 14 wins, including a perfect regular season in his first campaign in the Ivy League. The first-year clinched the Potter Cup for the Crimson with a win in the fifth game Sunday against Trinity.
Harvard's student-athletes will head to the Collegiate Squash Association's Individual National tournament, beginning on Friday, March 1, in Providence, Rhode Island.
