BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A second half surge keyed by senior captain Keeley MacAfee (five goals, three assists) helped Harvard women's lacrosse (4-3) earn a 12-8 win at Binghamton (0-8) on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Caroline Garrity had two goals, adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers, first-year Grace Hulslander added a pair of goals, and sophomore goalkeeper Grace Rotondo made five saves to lead Harvard.
In a defensive first half, the Crimson held the Bearcats without a goal over the final 17:59, and took its first lead on Hulslander's goal to make it 3-2 with 2:32 to go in the opening 30 minutes.
Harvard continued to control the play in the second half, holding Binghamton off the scoreboard for the opening 17:20 of the frame, while scoring six straight goals to take a 9-2 lead.
Garrity notched her first goal of the day with a high shot over the shoulder of the Binghamton goalkeeper at 22:19. Then MacAfe's free position goal at 17:50 made it 8-2, which was followed by Tessa Queri's first of the game. She cut to the net and scored off a feed from MacAfee at 14:05 to complete the Harvard run.
Binghamton scored the next four goals in the contest to close the gap, but a three goal run keyed by goals from Garrity (8:30), MacAfee (6:20) and Bridget Flynn (3:02) sealed the win for the Crimson.
