Women's Rugby Earns Six NIRA All-America Selections

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– The National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) announced its All-America selections Wednesday afternoon, with six players on the Harvard women's rugby team earning recognition. Seniors Akweley Okine and Jenny Kronish, sophomore Erica Jarrell and first-year Cassidy Bargell earned All-America honors, while seniors Caitlin Weigel and Genevieve Quirion were named All-America honorable mentions.

Kronish led the way as the team's second-leading scorer and served as the primary field goal kicker for the team this season. The senior helped push the team to the NIRA National Championship when she scored a season-high 19 points in the NIRA semifinals against Quinnipiac.

Up front, Okine and Jarrell led the way for the Crimson scorers, and were a large part of the team's deep run to the NIRA National Championship. Okine scored a crucial try in the Ivy Championship victory against Dartmouth. Jarrell also scored a try in the win against Brown. Bargell made an immediate impact as a first-year, including two tries in the first round of the NIRA playoffs against American International.

Weigel was a scoring machine in her senior season with the team, scoring four tries in the NIRA Playoffs as well as the game-winning try in the team's Ivy Championship game. Quirion also scored in the first round against American International College.

The Crimson finished the fall season with an 8-2 record, ending the season with an appearance in the NIRA National Championship for the first time in program history.
