CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fourth straight season, the Harvard Crimson will have a representative in the CSA Individual National Championship. Marwan Tarek advanced to the final round with an upset victory over the second-seeded Miko Äijänen. The sophomore is now scheduled to compete against Penn's Aly Abou El-Einen in the final match of the tournament.
Tarek exacted revenge on Äijänen, who bested the Egyptian in a match earlier this season. Tarek came out fast, swinging his way to a 11-3 first set win. A 15-13 win in a marathon of a second set put Tarek in a position to sweep. Äijänen fought back, however, and answered with an 11-8 third-set victory. Tarek cut the comeback effort there and dropped the Trinity representative, 11-8, in the final set to clinch the match.
In the other semifinal matchup, Saadeldin Abouaish fell to Abou El-Einen in straight sets. The loss was the first of the season for the senior.
In Molloy Cup play, George Crowne defeated Navy's Jonathan Lentz, 3-1, to earn a spot in the East Division final tomorrow afternoon. Crowne will also play against a Penn Quaker when he and Dillon Huang meet on the court tomorrow.
