Megan Joel helped No. 12 Harvard field hockey (9-1) earn a 2-0 shutout win over New Hampshire (3-8) on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 3) at Berylson Field.
Harvard outshot New Hampshire 12-1 for the contest, with junior goalkeeper
Ellie Shahbo earning her fifth shutout of the season.
The Crimson got things rolling early on, scoring on their first penalty corner of the contest. Senior captain
Mimi Tarrant, the stopper on the play, made a perfect setup for Pearce, who fired a low shot by UNH goalkeeper Jemma Woods (10 saves) to make it 1-0 just 5:51 into the game.
Early in the second quarter, first-year
Megan Joel scored for the second straight game off a feed from
Lucy Leel. Leel lifted a pass to Joel, who batted the ball out of the air with 12:43 on the clock in the second quarter.
Shahbo made an excellent stop on New Hampshire's lone shot in the contest, diving to make a stick save on Bloem van den Brekel's shot at 3:30 of the fourth quarter.
