Women’s Volleyball Tripped Up by Brown, 3-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite coming out of the gates strong to claim the first set of the match, the Harvard women's volleyball team (6-8, 3-2 Ivy League) fell to Brown (12-3, 5-0 Ivy League), 3-1, tonight, Oct. 9. The Brown Bears defeated the Crimson by set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 14-25 and 19-25.
 
For the second consecutive night, sophomore Katie Vorhies led the Crimson attack with 13 kills. Harvard showed its depth in its strong offensive line up tonight, as four other Crimson players nearly tallied double-digit kills, including junior co-captain Jaimie Rao (nine), first-year Corinne Furey (eight) and sophomores Nicole Prescott (eight) and Ariana White (seven). For the sixth-straight match, Bella Almanza posted 20+ assists, as the sophomore recorded 24 against the Brown Bears. First-year Rocky Aguirre provided support, dishing out 15 helpers of her own.
 
Harvard showed its depth in the backcourt tonight as well, as multiple players contributed to the Crimson's defensive efforts. Aguirre and Prescott led the team with nine digs apiece, while Almanza and first-years Teia Piette and Lindsey Zhang all contributed eight. Sophomore Olivia Cooper and Rao dominated at the net, each registering four blocks, while Vorhies added three.
 
Harvard Highlights
- Ariana White led the Crimson with a .667 hitting percentage off of seven kills and just one error.
- The Crimson tallied seven service aces tonight, including two apiece from Almanza and Prescott.
- Harvard outblocked Brown, 8-6.
- Tonight's contest pitted two strong, evenly matched teams against each other- evidenced by 19 score ties. 

Up Next
Harvard will return home to the Malkin Athletic Center next weekend, Oct. 15-16, welcoming Cornell and Columbia to Cambridge.
