PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Harvard Women's Tennis team competed as a team for the first time in over a month this past weekend at the Brown Quad in Rhode Island. The Crimson matched up against Columbia, Boston College and Brown at the Halloween weekend event.
 
The Crimson opened the fall tournament on Friday, Oct. 29, against Columbia. 
 
The duo of Mihaela Marculescu and Angel You picked up a win over the Lions pairing of Akanksha Bhan and Anna Zhang, 7-5. Sany Gawande and Demi Snyder also picked up a doubles victory (6-2) over Columbia's Michelle Xu and Winta Tewolde.
 
In the singles matches, Angel You and Rachel Lim, both earned themselves a victory, besting Columbia's Melissa Sakar, 6-2, 6-3, and Anna Zhang, 6-4, 6-4, respectively.
 
In the Saturday morning matches, the Crimson faced off against Boston College for the second time this fall. 
 
The Crimson was not able grab a win in doubles, but Marculescu earned a win over BC's Muskan Mahajan, 6-3, 6-4, in her singles competition.
 
In the finale on Halloween, the Crimson had a great showing against Brown. 
 
The pair of Maxi Duncan and Iveta Daujotaite picked up a win over Brown's Ali Benedetto and Britany Lau, 6-3. 
 
The Crimson won four of six singles matches in the afternoon. Duncan beat Alexandra Benedetto, 6-2, 6-2, while Lim earned a victory over Olivia Mariotti, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Gawande and Marculescu picked up wins in a tiebreak, outlasting Brown's Britany Lau, 7-5, 1-6 (10-7), and Gabriella Soliman, 6-2, 2-6 (10-8), respectively. 
 
"I'm proud of the overall effort from our crew this weekend," Traci Green,  The Sheila Kelly Palandjian Head Coach for Harvard Women's Tennis, The Ragatz Family Harvard Women's Coach of Excellence, said. "They have all been working very hard to get back in match form and we saw the hard work pay off. We will learn from these matches and continue to build as a team for our spring season."
 

Up next: 

The Crimson will welcome Boston College, Wisconsin and Minnesota to the Murr Center in Cambridge for the Harvard Invitational to wrap up the fall season, Nov. 4-7.
