Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

No. 10/10 Women’s Hockey Downed by Yale, 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In a Friday night matchup between two storied rivals, No. 10/10 Harvard Women's Hockey (5-3-0, 3-3-0 ECAC Hockey) came up short against the RV/RV Yale Bulldogs (5-2-0, 3-2-0 ECAC Hockey), falling by a score of 3-1 at Ingalls Rink.

Junior forward Anne Bloomer had the lone goal of the night for the Crimson, striking on the power play at 14:42 in the second period. It marked the first regulation loss for Harvard this season.

The Crimson found itself in an early hole when Yale's Charlotte Welch put the Bulldogs on the board with a goal just six minutes into the game. Later in the period, with Yale on the power play, Emma Seitz broke free in front of the goal and doubled the Bulldogs' advantage, blasting the puck past Harvard goaltender Lindsay Reed.

As period number two got underway, the Crimson began to establish more traction, mounting some pressure in the offensive end of the ice on several occasions. Still, it was Yale who was next to score, taking a 3-0 lead on a goal from junior forward Kaitlyn Rippon. Harvard would respond on the power play, however, when a rebound off a shot by Kristin Della Rovere found the forehand of Bloomer for a wrist-shot score.

Harvard was unable to muster any further offense in the third period, with Yale ultimately sealing a two-goal victory. The Crimson's best opportunity in the final 20 minutes came on the 4-on-4 when a puck floated by captain Emma Buckles was tipped in front of the Yale goal before sliding off the left post.

Harvard Highlights
  • Anne Bloomer's second-period goal marked the fourth straight game in which the junior has found the back of the net. It is the longest goal-streak of Bloomer's collegiate career.
  • Kristin Della Rovere was credited with her team-leading fifth assist of the season.
  • The Crimson has now scored on the power play in consecutive games for the first time this year.
  • Dominique Petrie led Harvard with four shots on target in the game.
  • Lindsay Reed saved 34 of the 37 shots she faced on the night.
Game Notes
  • Harvard won 41 of 66 total faceoffs. The Crimson has now held the faceoff advantage in seven of its eight games this season.
  • Yale had gone seven straight periods without allowing a goal before Bloomer broke the streak with her tally in the second period.
  • Katey Stone remains one win away from 500 career wins. Stone would be the fourth coach of a women's program to reach the threshold and the first female to do so.
