Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Stone Secures 500th Victory, No. 10/10 Women’s Hockey Takes Down Brown, 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Katey Stone, The Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Hockey, added another accolade to her already impressive resume, capturing the 500th win of her coaching career as No. 10/10 Harvard (6-3, 4-3 ECAC Hockey) beat Brown (1-6-2, 1-4-1 ECAC Hockey) on Saturday by a score of 5-2.

Stone, who is in her 27th year as the head coach at Harvard, becomes just the fourth head coach of a women's program and the first female head coach to reach 500 career wins. The distinction comes just a few months after Stone became the first woman to be honored with USA Hockey's Distinguished Achievement Award this past summer.

Under Stone, Harvard has won 11 Beanpot titles, seven ECAC Hockey Regular-Season Championships, six ECAC Hockey Tournament Championships and eight Ivy League titles. Stone has led the Crimson to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances six Frozen Fours, and four NCAA title games, the most recent of which was in 2015.

Five different Crimson tallied goals on the historic day, and first-year netminder, Alex Pellicci, picked up the win in what was the first start of her collegiate career.

After a scoreless first period, defender Maryna Macdonald broke the seal with her third goal of the season at 12:01 in the second period, giving Harvard a 1-0 advantage.

Just over five minutes later, Brown's Mel Anderson evened things up with a wrister from the point that found its way past Pellicci in net.

With time winding down in the second period, captain Emma Buckles beat the Brown goalie with a sharp-angle shot from left of the Bears goal that found its way into the cage. The senior's third goal of the season sent the Crimson into the second intermission with a 2-1 advantage.

In the final period, junior Anne Bloomer kept her goal streak going, scoring for the fifth consecutive game on what was a beautiful backhand shot. At 6:31 in the third, Brown's Megan Forrest kept her team alive, making it 3-2, when Pellicci got caught out of her cage, leaving the Harvard goal unattended.

A breakaway score by Kristin Della Rovere at 9:57, and an empty-netter from Dominique Petrie with just over a minute remaining, secured Stone's milestone victory.
