CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its fourth road game to start the season, the Harvard women's basketball team suffered a 70-46 setback at URI tonight, Nov. 23, at the Ryan Center. The loss dropped the Crimson to 1-4 on the season.
Senior
Tess Sussman led Harvard's offensive efforts with 12 points, followed by sophomore
Lola Mullaney with nine and first-year
Harmoni Turner with eight. Turner led the Crimson's defense as well, recording seven rebounds. Junior
Annie Stritzel grabbed five boards, while sophomore
Kennedy Heath notched four.
The Crimson jumped out to an 8-4 lead behind triples from Mullaney and Sussman to begin the game. Sussman had a hot hand in the opening quarter, knocking down two more triples for the Crimson. URI responded with two consecutive three's of its own to take a 19-18 lead at the end of the frame.
The Rams extended its lead to 28-21 in the first half of the second quarter. McCarthy and Turner provided a spark to the Crimson's offense to cut Harvard's deficit to 28-26. Mullaney added another triple in the closing minutes of the quarter, however URI pushed its advantage to double-digits at 39-29 heading into halftime.
Mullaney sank her third triple of the game to begin the third quarter. After three baskets from URI,
McKenzie Forbes brought the Crimson within nine with a triple of her own. The Rams used a 4-1 run to widen its margin to 14 at 50-36. Heath entered the game for the first time in a Crimson uniform to knock down a triple, but URI held onto a 54-40 lead at the end of quarter three.
URI used strong defense in the fourth quarter to hold the Crimson at bay and maintain a 57-40 advantage. The Rams pushed ahead to 60-40 midway through the quarter and continued its offensive surge for the remainder of the frame to secure a 70-46 win.

- The Crimson made nine three-pointers, registering a 42.9 percentage compared to URI's 28 percent.
