CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a tightly-played non-conference contest against New Hampshire, No. 15/16 Harvard men's ice hockey (5-3-1) fell, 1-0, to the Wildcats (6-7-1) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
UNH's Jackson Pierson scored the deciding goal midway through the third period, breaking the deadlock for the deciding score.
Junior goaltender
Mitchell Gibson made 23 saves in net for Harvard keeping the Crimson in the game.
Harvard had a power play opportunity in the closing minutes when UNH's Alex Gagne was called for interference at 17:23, but the Crimson could not find the game-tying goal.
In a scoreless first period, Gibson made several good stops including one two minutes into the contest on a partial breakaway for Tyler Ward.
Harvard had its best chance minutes later, as
Casey Dornbach was on the back door for a chance right in front that was kicked away by Mike Robinson.
The Crimson had more chances in a scoreless second period, including two power play opportunities. On the first power play chance, sophomore
Alex Laferriere hit the post from the slot about four minutes into the frame.
Midway through the third period, it was Pierson who broke the scoreless tie on a breakaway from the red line in. His shot beat Gibson between the pads at 9:37 in what proved to be the game-winner.
