Women’s Basketball Tripped Up By Arizona State, 91-54

TEMPE, Ariz. – Wrapping up play at the ASU Classic this weekend, the Harvard women's basketball team (3-6, 0-0 Ivy League) fell to host Arizona State (5-4, 0-0 PAC-12) this afternoon, 91-54.
 
First-year Harmoni Turner led the Crimson for the second-straight day with 18 points. First-Year Elle Stauffer recorded nine points, while juniors McKenzie Forbes and Annie Stritzel each posted six points. Sophomore Lola Mullaney grabbed a team-high four rebounds, while Turner added three boards and three steals to her tally as well.
 
After two baskets from Forbes and Turner to begin the game, ASU scored three-straight to take the lead at 6-4. A pair of free throws from Forbes and a bucket from Stritzel tied the game at 8-8 halfway through the opening frame. Tess Sussman gave the Crimson the lead at 10-9, before ASU used a 5-1 run to build a nine-point advantage at 21-12 to end the first quarter.
 
The Sun Devils widened their margin to 14 points to open the second quarter at 27-13. The teams traded multiple pairs of free throws throughout the frame, however ASU used efficient shooting to claim a 45-24 lead heading into halftime.
 
ASU's offensive pressure continued in the third quarter, netting five-straight buckets to push its advantage to 32. Baskets from Mullaney, Stritzel and Maddie Stuhlreyer got the Crimson on the board in quarter three, however the Sun Devil's defense kept Harvard at bay to take a 70-37 lead into the final frame.
 
The Crimson and Sun Devils traded baskets to start the fourth quarter. Turner added two buckets to her tally, while Gabby Donaldson knocked down a triple halfway through the frame to bring the score to 80-47. Stauffer notched three baskets in the closing minutes of the game, but ASU's lead proved too much to overcome as the Sun Devils sealed a 91-54 victory.

Harvard will resume play on Sunday, Dec. 19, making the short trip to Northeastern for a 4 p.m. match up. The contest will be broadcast on NESN+.
